Mass(cot) Hysteria

Big fluffy characters in giant suits= NOT Boo's best friend.

We went out to dinner at a restaurant last night that was sponsoring, unbeknownst to us, a kids night. So there was balloons, free ice cream, you name it, awesome, great. They also had the restaurant mascot in costume, which is a large red bird.

He came over to our table to greet Boo, and gave her a friendly little wave. Boo looked, thought for a millisecond, then "WAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIRRRRGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Completely lost it. Shrieking. The poor college student in the suit made a quick getaway so as not to traumatize her any more, but Boo kept crying for a few more minutes.

Apparently the Easter Bunny visited day care today-- same reaction.

The funny thing is, when the bird dude was on the other side of the restaurant, visiting other kids, Boo was mesmerized. She kept watching him, pointing at him, and looking at us and repeating "bird" with no hint of fear. It was only when he came somewhat close to her (within her personal Axis of Evil) that she would get nervous. Bird Guy did a very good job of greeting the other kids, then turning away and hurrying past Boo on his way to another table so he wouldn't freak her out.

She'll recover. And honestly-- it's kind of funny. (Jeff and I would take turns comforting her so the other could have a good snicker.)
